Think before you post

“Google never forgets” – that’s a quote from Seth Godin.  So whatever you post is on line for everyone to see.  No matter what happens it is indexed forever.  That’s why managing your on line presence is so important.  I posted on this subject not long ago here

So the first part of my thought is – you might not post much on line but you have an on line presence.  In fact you might NOT have a facebook account or Twitter or blog…but you have a on line presence.  In all likelihood your employer has something about you or your work.  Or your school might have some records on line…or one of your friends who is on line has made some reference of you.  If that’s the case someone else is managing your online presence.

Wouldn’t it be better if you managed your own image?

You can post positive references about yourself, you can list your strengths, manage an on line presence that would impress a potential employer!

The other part of managing your on line presence is what you DON’T post on line.  Wisdom better be part of your posting process.  You’ve likely seen, as I have, postings on a blog or Facebook that just shouldn’t be public.  Comments about a fellow worker, an employer, or even family members.  Think before you post!
